Spartacus Slot Machine
Spartacus has superb game play and sound effects, which give the game a terrific atmosphere. It combines a regular 5x3 screen with a second, colossal reels screen (12 rows on a single slot), giving you a massive 100 pay-lines in total.
Spartacus slots, like many other colossal reel games does generally play well on very little money and was designed to have a relatively low volatility rate, meaning you get lots of regular small wins, rather then infrequent larger wins. So, your money should go further with this game, compared to high volatility slots.

Spartacus High Limit Slots in Vegas
The first time I played Spartacus in a land-based casino, it was a real shock - I saw that it was a 25c game and didn't pick up on the fact it was a 25c per line game, meaning that each spin was costing $10.
I put my $20 bill into the machine, expecting to play for at least 5 or 10 minutes, clicked 'spin' button twice and it wouldn't spin again after that. I was confused at first, but then realised I had lost my entire $20 in just two spins!
Luckily, it was just $20, not $100, but I sure learned my lesson quickly - always take notice of the actual value of the spin, rather than looking at 'credits'
I've seen these high limit Spartacus slots in a few casinos, on the regular slots floor, including the Planet Hollywood Casino and The Flamingo Casino

Spartacus Slots in Las Vegas
Even though the game has now been around for a few years, Spartacus is still present in most Vegas casinos, as are many of the other games in this series by WMS.
Having talked to quite a few people about this game, I think that it could be improved relatively easily to make it more popular. If the reels came in a little quicker, it would be much easier to play.
As it stands the reels land a little slowly and it feels a bit sloppy. Also, the button you press is also not very responsive on some of the older machines, so these could be improved too.
Ancient battles are a popular area for slot designers. Swords, helmets and shields all feature in this novel new title from Williams Interactive (WMS). Unlike many earlier historical titles, Spartacus Call to Arms slots feature special symbols around the reels which make it possible to get ’10 of a kind’ wins. When you first see this new idea, it seems complex. What you will find is that you tune in very quickly.
The Spartacus slot game includes a free spins game where the multipliers for wins double, and more wild symbols come into play. While there is no jackpot or outsized win for this game, a combination of those wilds and the special symbols can give your bankroll a timely boost.

Base Game and Special Side Symbols Setup
The basis for the Spartacus slot machine game is a 5 by 4 grid, with 50 win lines crossing from the left. You can bet from 1c per 2 lines, or 25c a spin. The number of coins per spin can be raised if you prefer. If you check out the pay table, you’ll see that the wins for regular symbols are very low. Even the best symbol (a warrior) is only worth 3.2x your total spin amount.
Giving those wins a boost involves the 8 special symbols around the outside of the Spartacus reels. These are called ‘reels’ in the instructions, and appear to be chained to giant pillars. When you click spin, you will see a flame effect around them, and random symbols from the game will appear. These then act as extra reels with your symbol on them.
An example is the easiest way to explain. If you get 2 of the helmets in the 4 special spots on the left, then 5 helmets appear on the regular reels, you have a 7-of-a-kind, and will be paid a multiplier of the normal payout. If 3 more helmets appear on the right hand special symbols, these will be added, you now have the maximum 10 of a kind. This pays out with a 250x multiplier for the base game, and a 500x multiplier during the free spins.
To help you keep track of the potential multipliers, there are the tops of stone columns above the reels. These show the symbols from the special spots, along with a multiplier for any wins which involve that same symbol.
Wilds can’t stay in the special symbol spots during the base game. If you get one there it will move out onto the reels. It is possible to get wins with different symbols at the same time, especially when you get a couple of wild symbols in play.
The scatter symbols are lions with a circular frame. If you get 3 of these you will enter the free spins bonus game.

Spartacus Call to Arms Slot – Bonus Game
Aside from the design differences, there are two differences in game play between the base game and free spins round.
The first is that all the win multipliers that come from the special symbols are doubled. That 500x top prize could apply to the best paying symbol, giving you more than 1500x your stake as the win to aim for.
Second, there are now wild symbols on the reels. These are in addition to extra wilds which can appear from the special symbol spots to each side of the reels. This gives you a lot more chances to hit those bigger wins, using a combination of special (side) symbols, wilds and regular symbols.
The free spins game can be retriggered.
Stone and Swords: Design of the Spartacus Call to Arms Slot
The design of this game is fairly static, with no overly dramatic animations or big special effects. It does look smart, and the 2 columns on either side which contain the special symbols give it a distinctive look. These are covered in chains, and the special symbols appear in circular gold frames. Each time you click the spin button – which is centrally located below the reels – the special symbol spots become covered in flames.
The guy with a sword (presumably Spartacus) is the stand out symbol, this is created in a lot of detail. I also like the scatter symbol, which is a serious looking lion which stares out of the slot at you. You get a night-time view of the same stone setting for the free spins. As is common with WMS slots, the music kicks in, with some dramatic sounds that could be from a movie.
Are You Spartacus? Is the Spartacus Call to Arms Slot Worth a Spin?
This is an enjoyable slot with novel game play, though it really only has the special symbols system to keep your interest. If you do hit some of those 10 of a kind wins, I am sure you will be singing the praises of this game. If not then it can get a little repetitive after a while. The doubled multipliers during the free spins round might be just what you need for that bankroll boosting big win. This game is certainly worth a look, whether it stands the test of time remains to be seen.
